Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about designing, printing and wiring a lamp with Aladdin Lamp.

Is Aladdin Lamp free?

Yes. Designing and exporting print files are free, with no account needed. Saving your lamps needs a free sign-in with Google or an email code.

Do I need an account?

No. You can design and export print files without one. To save a lamp, you sign in with Google or an email code. Signing in keeps the lamp in your account, so you can edit it and print it again.

Which printers does it work with?

The designer has presets for Bambu Lab (X1, P1, A1 and A1 mini), Prusa (MK4, Core One and MINI+), Creality (Ender-3 V3, K1 and K1 Max), Elegoo (Neptune 4 and Neptune 4 Plus) and Anycubic (Kobra 3 and Kobra 2 Pro). The presets set the build volume and how parts are laid out on plates. Any printer with a big enough bed can print the files.

Which file formats do I get?

STL and 3MF. An STL export is a zip with one file per part. A 3MF export is a zip with one 3MF file per plate. Both include a text file of print notes.

What do I need besides the printed parts?

A lamp cord kit with a socket, an LED bulb, and a little glue for the socket ring on a pendant lamp. The designs are made for the common E26 socket size, so check your cord kit against the print notes.

Which bulbs fit?

The designer builds around six LED bulb shapes: A19 (standard), A15 (small), A21 (large), ST64 (vintage), G25 (globe) and BR30 (flood). It makes the shade at least big enough for your bulb, with room to spare.

Can I use a regular incandescent bulb?

No. Use LED bulbs only. Incandescent bulbs get hot enough to soften PLA.

What filament should I use?

PLA works well, and white or natural PLA lets the most light through. If you want more heat resistance, check the temperature rating of your filament. PETG and similar materials usually handle heat better than PLA.

How thick are the walls?

The default is 1.2 mm, and you can set anything from 0.4 mm to 3 mm. Thinner walls let more light through. In vase mode, the wall is the line width you choose, usually 0.8 mm.

Why is my print stringy or rough?

It's usually the slicer settings. Dry your filament, use the wall loop count from your print notes, and try vase mode for pendant lamps. Our print settings guide has tested settings and the numbers behind them.

Do I own my designs?

Yes. You own the lamps you design, and you can print, share or sell them. See our Terms for the details.

Does it work on a phone?

The designer works in modern browsers on desktop and mobile. Exporting and slicing are easier on a computer.

Is a 3D printed lamp safe?

It can be, if you follow the basics. Use LED bulbs only, use a certified cord kit, and follow your local electrical rules. If you're not sure about the wiring, ask a qualified electrician. Printed parts come with no warranty, as our Terms explain.

How tall can a lamp be?

That depends on your printer. The designer checks your lamp against your printer's build volume and warns you if it won't fit.
